Kayaking in Narta Lagoon: among pink flamingos and the Zvërnec monastery

20 minutes from Vlorë there's a lagoon where thousands of pink flamingos mirror themselves in the flat morning water. You cross it by kayak, in silence, to the islet of the Byzantine monastery of Zvërnec. It's the calmest and most surprising experience in our selection.

Direct booking with local operators: no hidden fees, free cancellation up to 48h before.

You set off early, when the lagoon is a mirror and the birds are most active: flamingos, Dalmatian pelicans (one of Europe's last populations), herons, black-winged stilts. The nature guide explains what you're seeing and where to look; binoculars are included.

The Zvërnec stop is the cultural moment: a 13th-century monastery on a pine islet linked by a wooden bridge, one of Albania's most photogenic places. Then you paddle back calmly. Zero difficulty: the water is flat and shallow, perfect even for first-time paddlers.

Frequently asked questions

Are the flamingos always there?

Yes, all year, but numbers change: thousands during migrations (April-May, September-November), hundreds in summer and winter.

How much paddling is there?

About 2 hours total, split into 30-40 minute stretches with stops. Flat water, no current: suitable for everyone.

Why so early?

Because at 8:00 the lagoon is calm, the birds active and the light perfect. From 11:00 on the wind rises and the flamingos move away.
